Motorcycle tires is there really a difference? Help

Hello everyone,

As I ride around I see all different type of motorcycles and I usually hear men talking about the custom work and their tires, so since I'm a rider and woman rider at that and you know as women we really don't bother with the intricacies of tires, clutches, etc.  I decided to ask what is the best tire for a sports bike and why needless to say I couldn't get a straight answer.  Everyone talking at the same time and oh boy here we go with the testostorones on who can beat who, gotta love you guys.

So I figured why not post the question here and hopefully get some type of answers.

1. What are the best types of tires for a sports bike?
2. Why are they the best types of tires?

  1. Well here is an answer I got from a friend of mine on facebook when I forwarded the article to him. Hopefully it can help someone out there.

Barron Van Brackle: It mainly depends on the "type" of riding you do. If your riding consists more along the lines of long distance rides or "touring", they have tires for that. If it's more on the "high performance" end, then there are tires made specially for that type of riding.

The differences are in the construction. The carcass itself, the profile (shape of ... See Moretire), the different compounds each brand & speed rating given to a tire.

For the riding myself, brother & friends do on the track, there are differences as well EVENTHOUGH we're using "track or race tires". There are slicks (no tread), DOT race tires (very little tread but only in center of tire) & there are also track/street tires which are predominately geared for track use & street/track tires which can be used on the track but, are made more for street use. The street/track tires are usually made with a lower speed rating.

Each manufacturer of tires whether Pirelli, Bridgestone, Dunlop etc have different compounds & variations of tires within there own line. Again, it all depends on the type of riding you participate in.

    Hope this helps

    Peace
